Dark Knight sketch by silentsketcher Dark Knight sketch by silentsketcher
So yesterday I got my hands on Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, because it's such an awesome book, through the library and spent last night re-reading it. Well, I got that artist itch that comes at 2 or 3 AM and just started sketching one of the final scenes where Batman goes one-on-one with Superman. If you can believe it, these figures fit within a 4x4" square. I like working small. Anyway, I'm going to be making this into a colored, finished 10x15" pin-up for print. It will be epic, just you wait. :D

Also, is it just me or does Batman: The Dark Knight Returns flow on a similar wavelength with Watchmen? I sort of got that vibe.

That really is an awesome book, and a very well done sketch! I agree with it being the same sort of vibe too. Actually, you could argue that Batman is the same as Nightowl. And both stories have the same idea that the government has disowned heroes and treats them like criminals. Again, nice work! This would be a cool postcard size print as well as the large size.

Yeah, I think Alan and Frank were on the same idea of the Superhero element of the '80s. That as things got gritty so realism could enter the superhero lit, there would also be the politics that go along with that. Of course, you will never have a Superman book where Clark Kent is a dark character. On the same token, Batman will never be as dark as he is within The Dark Knight either. Especially since they've offed him in the books now.

They offed Batman? That's news to me.
