Donnie Darko final project

This is the, I guess you'd say, end result of a final project for one of my college classes. I have pretty much nill experience with digital art so I can't say I'm too happy with it. Plus, it was kind of rushed so I didn't get to put in as much detail and refinement as I had hoped to. Still, I really liked drawing Donnie Darko and Frank. Those two I drew out, scanned in, and started playing around with in Photoshop. One thing I hated about this piece is the "ripple" effect spreading out from Donnie's hand. I couldn't find any effects in the tools I was using to create what I had in mind. But my main beef is the jet engine. As part of the assignment, at least one part of the final piece had to include something created purely in Illustrator, so I made the engine with that. I would much rather have just used an actual screenshot of the engine and manipulated it with Photoshop. Anyway, I guess it turned out pretty decent, all things considering.
