Meccil's 54MUR41 Hiroshi by silentsketcher Meccil's 54MUR41 Hiroshi by silentsketcher
asked me to do his 54MUR41 character Hiroshi, seen here, as part of the 10 Free Sketches. Hiroshi is of Spanish descent, but was raised in Japan and trained in the art of ninjitsu until he decided their methods were less than "honorable" and left to learn the way of the samurai. The idea of the guitar actually working as the sheath for a sword was pretty cool so I tried to do it justice. I used several references, making the the instrument specifically a Spanish guitar and the pose from an Iaido style stance. And yes, he is Roman Catholic. It turned out pretty well overall so I hope you like it. You can see Meccil's original 54MUR41 Hiroshi here: [link]

This is utterly gorgeous! I love your take on what sounds like truly inspired character design.

Although (and I slap myself as I say this for being a buzz-kill), the concept of the guitar-sheath samurai sword was already used in the classic post-apocalyptic kung-fu movie 'Six-String Samurai'. Incidentally, check that movie out if you get the chance, it's awesome.

Thank you! Although, I really can't take too much credit for this one. ~meccil was the one who designed this character. I just put my own flair into this guy. ;) And thanks for the movie recommendation too, by the way. I'll try to check it out sometime.

Oh, I can highly recommend it. I've never seen anywhere else someone threaten to, quote: "summon up a spinach monster with my rock n' roll magic". It's a hollow threat, but it sure as hell sets a certain tone.

Oh, and the protagonist is pursued across the Nevada desert by a heavy-metal playing avatar of the Grim reaper, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Slash, top hat and all.

Glad you like it! :D It was fun to do. Made me think a bit when coming up with the initial drawing, I mean, a Spanish samurai isn't exactly normal. And that guitar sword was a bit tricky.

yeah, but that's pretty original, so I guess that alone gives it points  oh, and the guitar sword is the awesomeness. The piece looks really good
