This makes my third year attending the Motor City Comic Con, and I have to say that it feels good having another one under my belt. Again, I had the pleasure of sharing a table with Jason W. for a second time, as well as Brandon C., a first-timer to the comic convention scene. Both are former college classmates of mine and all-around real good guys, too, so it made for a very comfortable visit of drawing and chatting during the show.
Sadly, while AdamWithers and ComfortLove (creators of the self-published series 'The Uniques') were unable to attend, we were able to see some other familiar faces from the Grand Rapids area, including Gina V., SCOTTeFRESH, and even an illustration professor of ours. It was very encouraging to visit with each of them for a bit. Also visiting Guy Davis' table was a special treat since he's a personal favorite of mine, contributing enormously to Dark Horse's 'B.P.R.D.' series as well as his self-made series, 'The Marquis'.
Didn't sell a lot of prints, though the Fast Food Mafia did alright. The caricatures, however, went over very well. So that was reassuring. As you may have noticed, there are also some recent additions to the gallery. During my downtime, I hammered out some monochromatic marker drawings to sell. Well, none of them actually sold, so if one should happen to catch your eye be sure to let me know!

ARTIST FEATURE
In the spirit of community, I decided to feature a different, fellow dA'er fairly regularly. To the artists: please don't feel obligated to do the same, this is just something that I wanted to do. I enjoy your work and I want others to as well.
This journal's featured artist is... (drum roll, please)...
WhiteTigaw!
As the winner of our Salad Days contest's Summer category, she gets a special feature in my journal for this month. She went above and beyond the call of duty by submitting not one but four entries into our little contest, one for each season. Thank you very much, WhiteTigaw! So take some time to look over my personal picks from WhiteTigaw's gallery, and of course I encourage you to browse through her gallery yourselves.
Here are some examples of her work:

And to that end, I salute you! Keep up the good work!

the past few months
So, in a nut shell, there have been several rather big happenings in my personal life over the past few months. Among these has been moving out and into my friend Blake's place, where we're now housemates. I still live in my home town, but get to be out more in the countryside, which we both enjoy for the additional privacy and larger property. I've enjoyed having more interior space to myself and finding a knack for decorating. I've been here since January, but I'm still sorting through boxes. I'll be glad when everything is in its proper place and I can survey it all and say, "done." Satisfying? You bet.
But then of course there's the two
Afterlife Inc. Kickstarter
Jonathan Lock, a very talented writer living in the United Kingdom, began a Kickstarter this month to fund 'Afterlife, Inc.' volume 3: Lifeblood. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jonlock/afterlife-inc-volume-3-lifeblood The last ten days until the deadline will start tomorrow, and currently he's £2,300 short of the needed goal amount. Read the stories for free on the 'Afterlife, Inc.' website and see for yourselves that it is a worthwhile series to follow and support. http://www.jonlock.com/afterlifeinc
If you can give even a few dollars (or pounds, rather) that would be great. Every little bit helps. So let's help make sure that volume t
car shopping
Been perusing over vehicles as of late, as the ol' Oldsmobile Silhouette ('97) is getting a bit, well, old. I've been looking for something with a decent amount of space to accommodate convention materials and, if able, similar materials belonging to friends along with said friends. I'm leaning towards the hatchback variants of either the '12 Ford Focus (new) or Toyota Prius (used), no older than an '09 or '08. But the latter really depends on the price that can be negotiated, as it seems to be the better vehicle of the two. (I mean, you can't get much better than an average of 41 mpg.) In either case, Consumers Report gave both good ratings.
another brief update
As mentioned last time, I'll be attending the Detroit FanFare comic convention in late October with my usual table colleague, Jason Westlake. And like last year, I'll be carpooling and rooming with friends AdamWithers (https://www.deviantart.com/adamwithers) and ComfortLove (https://www.deviantart.com/comfortlove), creators of such works as 'The Uniques' and 'Rainbow in the Dark'. (Always an enjoyable time, spending it with those two. Jason, too, of course.) In the meantime, I'll be working when time allows between regular job hours to have more material prepared in time for the show. Mainly more sketch cards, a more recent sketchbook, and perhaps a pin-up or two. Which, by the by, is not including the 11x17" var
